OBZ Festival 2007

The annual OBZfestival 2007 was held in the Cape Town suburb of Observatory on the 1st and 2nd of December 2007. Marking the start of the Cape Town summer, OBZfestival 2007 featured live music, craft markets, children's area and restaurants. We are well on our way in positioning OBZfestival as the premier street festival in Cape Town thereby adding to the city's rich cultural tourism industry.

OBZ Live
Two day live music stage featuring Cape Town and South Africa's emerging urban youth bands with genres covering funk, soul, hip-hop, rock, ska, reggae and afro pop. The now termed OBZlive stage is synonymous with OBZfestival and plays a central role in terms of the atmosphere on Lower Main Road during the festival.

OBZ Kids
OBZkids is a safe and dedicated kiddies area where parents attending the festival with their children are offered various children's activities.

OBZ Chill
OBZchill is an acoustic focused "stage" where those attending the festival are afforded a chilled environment utilising Obs parks and public space

OBZ Lazy Sunday
As OBZfestival's paying stage, Lazy Sunday featured the best of South Africa's urban jazz scene

OBZ Film
OBZfestival in collaboration with Encounters Film Festival featured screenings of South African films and documentaries at various Obs venues.

OBZ Market
Synonymous with the festival, this market included food vendors, clothing etc.

OBZ Loud
A new element to the festival, OBZloud featured established local and national bands who have "graduated" into successful recording and performing bands

OBZ Street Bands
Street bands are a integral part of Cape Town history. The inclusion of Street bands to the festival is aimed at celebrating and acknowledging street and marching bands contribution to the city's cultural heritage.

A new digital platform element to the festival, utilising cell phone & web technology to create and encourage interaction between the festival, audience, artists and brands supporting the festival.

OBZ Art
This year OBZfestival included a focussed Art and Craft component including exhibitions, craft market and a festival spraycan art project.

OBZ Festival 2006
OBZfestival 2006 saw the introduction of a festival corporate identity, website as well as festival sub brands namely: OBZlive, OBZkidz, OBZchill & OBZlazy Sunday. 2006 also established a partnership between Festival Producers (Out the Box Productions), the Observatory Civic Association (OCA) and the Observatory Business Forum (OBF) ensuring a professionally managed festival through consultations with local businesses and residents.
Last year's festival saw the highest number of bands, featuring, amongst others, the Rudimentals, Godessa, Blk Jks, Southpaw, Hog Hoggity Hog & Teba
